  • Aspen Bark

    The herbal aspirin for pain.Aspen is known as a anti-inflammatory and relieves arthritic and rheumatic pains and aches, reduces fever, can be used as a tonic and has stimulant properties. It works as an energizer medication when treating anorexia (loss of hunger and helplessness to eat) as well as other conditions related to debility. Aspen's antiseptic and astringent attributes help ease diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome and infections of the urinary tract. It encourages the flow of bile (cholagogue) and can also be used to promote digestion as it stimulates the functioning of the stomach and liver.Excellent digestive tonic.Can be made into a bark tea, then concentrated into syrup.Decoction recipe- 1-4 grams in boiling 2 cups water to drink or apply to skin.

  • Barberry

    Common Barberry is native to parts of Asia and was brought to the United States with European settlers in the 1600s. It was a popular plant for its use as a hedge, producing fruits that were made into jam, and a yellow pigment that was used as a dye. The psychological effects of Barberry are primarily from the yellow alkaloid berberine. Barberry has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and lower inflammation. Barberry has proven positive effects on blood sugar, making it an excellent choice to prevent and improve diabetes. Berberine acts on the smooth muscles that line the intestines, helping improve digestion and reduce gastrointestinal pain. Barberry is even an effective treatment for diarrhea, including both traveler’s diarrhea and diarrhea caused by food poisoning. IT is useful as an antipyretic for lowering fevers and inflammatory conditions, as a laxative and intestinal strengthener, as an antibacterial skin wash, and as a liver stimulant and blood purifier. For fevers, mucosa inflammations, and a stomach bitter and intestinal tonic, drink one-half teaspoon boiled in 8 oz of water for 10 mins every 3-4 hours, or a tablespoon can be boiled in a quart of water for a day's supply and sipped periodically.

    Native Hops species are found in eastern Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and the Rockies from New Mexico northward. As far back as the first century AD they were described as a salad plant and are believed to originate from Egypt.Hops have 5 basic effects on the body: a sedative, a bitter tonic, antispamodic, anodyne and antibiotic. Hops is perhaps the ideal remedy for a nervous stomach, a safe sedative for children, relaxes muscle tension, spasms, and general irritability due to colds. Hops have helped colonic spasms, and intestinal cramps, relieve toothaches and minor body pain. For topical applications, hops contains antibiotic substances that are effective on staph and other skin bacterias.To use: one half to one teaspoon in onehalf cup of boiling water. For topical applications, moisten the leaves with brandy or vodka, crush and apply as a hot poultice. Recent stobiles can be rubbed into small particles and mixed with hot water or brandy to make a paste that is wrapped in gauze or applied directly to sore tooth or jaw.

    The Latin name of Red Raspberry translates to Rubus idaeus, meaning “bramble bush of Ida.” This name was given based on the belief that raspberries were first discovered and cherished by the Olympian gods of Mount Ida. The herb was linked to fertility and children early on in “the story of Ida,” where the nursemaid to the infant Zeus pricked her finger while picking the snow-white berries, staining them red for all eternity. European and Native American women have been reaching for raspberry leaves for centuries to relieve normal menstrual cramps and prepare the womb for childbirth during pregnancy.

    The plant is widely cultivated in European countries and the Americas and wild plants can be found in rocky, mountainous regions.

    Raspberry leaf has the following herbal actions: anti-inflammatory, mild hemostatic, anti-emetic, nervine, nutritive, galactagogue, uterine trophorestorative, relaxant, tonic/astringent, and parturient.  

    Use 1 tablespoon of dried leaves in a tea strainer and steep with boiling water for 5 mins.
